The Willow Center strongly condemns the horrible violence that occurred last Thursday at the Fed Ex facility here in Indianapolis, and we are heart-broken about the loss of so many precious lives.

It would be far too easy to simply state that we send our “thoughts and prayers” to those involved. “Thoughts and prayers” are absolutely important, but they are not enough. Instead of just our “thoughts and prayers”, we offer our true compassion and our actual commitment to ACTION.

When an unexpected traumatic event such as this occurs, it deeply affects not only those directly involved, but also the entire surrounding community. Trauma affects our brains, our bodies, and our relationships in long-lasting ways, and it is vital that we destigmatize the step of reaching out for professional help as we all attempt to process what just happened. So, our commitment is this: The Willow Center is here for you and our doors are open. There is NO SHAME in asking for help. That’s worth repeating: there is no shame in asking for help.

The Willow Center, and our fellow Hendricks County mental health providers, each have professionally trained counselors on staff who can work 1-on-1 with you to process both the direct and the vicarious trauma that this act of violence in our community has caused. You are not alone. Your feelings are valid. Together, we can let our HOPE have the last word.
